Bungalow block print tablecloths
Bungalow block print tablecloths, a class apart
I've also sold block prints from other suppliers over the years, but Bungalow's tablecloths are truly in a class of their own. The cotton is beautiful and sturdy, and the block prints—even though they're all handmade—are incredibly smooth. It's clear these tablecloths are made by true craftsmen.
All handmade
Not only is the printing of the fabric done by hand, but the wooden stamps are also made entirely by hand.
Slight discoloration is normal
These tablecloths will fade slightly after the first few washes. This is normal and can be explained by the manufacturing process. The men who print the tablecloths are literally right on top of the fabric, hovering over it as they print each stamp. Therefore, they naturally cannot use dyes that could be harmful to their health if inhaled. The natural dyes used in block printing do fade slightly with washing.
What is the best way to preserve the color?
To minimize fading, I have the following tips. Before washing the tablecloth for the first time, soak it overnight in cold water with colorless natural vinegar. (Do not use cleaning vinegar.) The ratio is 1 to 10, so 1 liter of vinegar to 10 liters of water. The larger the bucket or container, the better, because the fewer sharp creases the tablecloth has, the better the result. The vinegar will neutralize any paint odor and help set the paint. Then wash the tablecloth at 30 degrees Celsius with a wool or delicate detergent. Iron after use.
