Yes, another lovely deep plate from the Marimekko Oiva series. I always think gray is the safe bet. Look at everyone with a gray sofa. But the gray of this Unikko series really appeals to me. The heart with just a hint of light yellow, the light gray, and the fact that it can be beautifully combined with other pieces from the Oiva tableware and Marimekko textiles. Consider, for example, the black-and-white dotted Räsymatto tableware, the black-and-white Tiiliskivi placemats, and the removable tablecloth with the same pattern.

Unikko design

Unikko, a symbol of creativity, was created at a time when floral designs were scarce in the Marimekko collection. This was because Armi Ratia, the founder of Marimekko, so loved flowers and was convinced that their beauty couldn't be captured in a two-dimensional design. Maija Isola, however, was fascinated by the floral theme and decided to create a whole series of new floral prints. Incidentally, the Unikko design on this dinner plate is applied to the inside; the outside is plain white.
