Sami Ruotsalainen laid the foundation for Marimekko's Oiva tableware. He not only considered aesthetics in the design, but also considered ease of use, such as stackability, and the need for everyday use. Moreover, from the outset, Ruotsalainen focused on the versatility of the tableware. Therefore, there are fixed shapes for the various tableware pieces that recur repeatedly—just with different colors and motifs. These shapes can then be complemented by the base, the white Oiva tableware pieces.

It's a solid plate with a beautiful, curved rim. Compared to most dinner plates, it sits quite high above the table, giving it the illusion of floating. Very beautiful!

This Oiva dinner plate features the Räsymatto motif by Maija Louekari.

All Oiva tableware is made of stoneware, a sturdier material than earthenware. Perfect for everyday use, it's dishwasher, microwave, oven, and freezer safe. Just be sure not to put the tableware straight from the freezer into a hot oven, as the material can't withstand that.
