When I started selling Marimekko, I killed two birds with one stone. First, of course, all the beautiful—often iconic—designs and exquisite tableware and related items. Second, a sleek white tableware collection, but with a touch of Marimekko quirkiness.

The Oiva tableware collection is the most extensive I know. Every season, several new items are added. And yet, everything fits together. The sizes and shapes are always identical. For starters, it all stacks beautifully. But it also often mixes and matches exceptionally well. And what if something from a design that was only available for a limited time is discontinued? Then we have white! Or we have white for those who love white, of course.

Flying saucers

A dinner plate from the Oiva series. This means the shape and design are the same as all the other dinner plates in the extensive Oiva tableware collection. So you can mix and match them to your heart's content. It's fun to create a set of different plates! Or, for the purists among us, stick with white!
Compared to most tableware, the plates in this Marimekko set sit quite high above the table, making it appear to float a little. A flying saucer that's almost landed :-) Beautiful! You can clearly see this in the second image.
