For years, I've wondered what a Christmas tree ornament looks like, and this year I finally got a set shipped over from Denmark. I knew these ornaments from a long time ago, when I was an agent for brands like Gry and Sif. Back then, they had round felt ornaments in their collection for Christmas trees. It sat in a child's room for years, until a cat tore apart all the cute white felt balls hanging from it :-)
Double-sided round rug
But back to this rug. It's round. It features a beautiful block print of the Peacock Jade motif (yes, with peacocks, isn't it cute?!) and it's double-sided! So, double-thick. I suspect this is to ensure that the dripping candle wax stays firmly in the cotton and doesn't seep through to your beautiful herringbone pattern. The two sides are neatly stitched together, and the whole thing is hemmed with a pretty ribbon in a brown color that's also in the block print.
Take your pick!
So take your pick! Will it go under the Christmas tree or on the table? Just keep in mind that this tablecloth is a bit smaller than the other round tablecloths from Bungalow. Instead of 170 centimeters, this round tablecloth has a diameter of only 136 centimeters.
(Before you ask, here's the answer: Because it's double-sided and has an extra nice finish, you still pay the same as for a round tablecloth of Ø170 cm.)
Candle wax from the rug
You know the trick to removing candle wax from a cotton tablecloth? Place two old tea towels or paper towels on either side of the candle wax stain and hold the iron over it. The candle wax should soak into the tea towel or paper towel.
Discoloration can occur
Before use, soak the rug overnight in cold water with vinegar to preserve its color. Then wash it briefly at a low temperature with a liquid color detergent. However, the rug may still fade slightly. The dye used in India for block printing is responsible for this. I recently realized why. With block printing, the men (yes, if I understand correctly, it's only men who do this) constantly stand with their heads above the fabric they're printing. They have to make sure they're placing the stamp in the right place on the fabric. If the dye they use is full of solvents and other harmful substances, these men's work will be short-lived. So keep this in mind the next time you take your rug out of the wash and it's a little lighter...
Always a lovely gift. I'm happy to wrap your order beautifully.
