She tipped me off about Shout! Just keep a can of Shout handy, and as soon as someone spills gravy or red wine, just spray it. (If you have a table that won't be happy with that, put something between the cloth and the table before you start Shouting). After the Christmas dinner, you just put the cloth in the wash and lay it back on the table while it's still wet (saves a lot of ironing). Or you hang it on the clothesline while wet and iron the tablecloth while it's still damp.
