The most famous flower of Marimekko

A field full of poppies! It's the Finnish brand's most famous design: the Unikko. This handy-sized bowl features a red poppy. Do you know the story behind the origins of this design? In the 1960s, the progressive Armi Ratia, founder of Marimekko, had forbidden the designers of the new Finnish brand to create floral motifs. Or rather, she had announced she would never print fabrics with floral motifs. She was convinced that the beauty of flowers would never be fully appreciated in a two-dimensional design. Designer Maija Isola was quite civilly disobedient and created an entire series featuring this stylized poppy: Unikko. And the rest is history!

Let's stack it up

You can never have too many of these little bowls. At least, in a household of four, I have eight in the cupboard, and they're all in use often: for breakfast, one with grapes, a soup for lunch, chips when the kids get home (oh no, apple and carrot chunks :-)), some extra cucumber for dinner, and leftovers also go into one of these bowls and, covered with a bowl cover, into the fridge—lunch for the next day!
