Marimekko Unikko purple, white, pink and dark red bowl | 2.5 dl

Iconic design, lovely little bowl

Please note: already sold out in Finland. I can no longer reorder this, so if you want it, grab your chance now.

If you are a fan of purple and the Unikko pattern, this is your moment, as Marimekko hasn't used shades of purple very often in recent years. This version of the iconic Unikko flower in purple and pink pairs perfectly with the temporary collection of the pink-dotted Siirtolapuutarha pattern. A little bowl like this is always handy. For example, for a small snack, a tasty treat with tea or drinks, or for a dessert without feeling like you've overindulged afterwards.

Unikko: the flower that shouldn't have existed

In 1964, there was one clear rule at Marimekko: no flowers. Founder Armi Ratia thought floral prints were dowdy and old-fashioned, and that was that. Or so she thought. Designer Maija Isola disagreed. She grabbed a large brush, secretly painted an entire series of flowers, and ignored all the rules: very large, very cheerful, and very different from the norm. When she showed her designs, Armi immediately fell in love with those enormous poppies (Unikko is Finnish for poppy). The rule was tossed out and the print went straight into production. Thus, a small act of rebellion became the face of Marimekko, and eventually a global icon of Finnish design: modern, spirited, and above all, very optimistic. You will encounter the poppy absolutely everywhere in Finland, and far beyond its borders, the Unikko has been brightening up everything it lands on for over sixty years. And now your table too!
