This Oiva breakfast plate features the Räsymatto motif by Maija Louekari. It might look like a string of beads, but it is a stylized representation of a quintessential Scandinavian phenomenon: the rag rug. It is a solid plate with a nicely curved rim. Compared to most breakfast plates, it sits relatively high above the table, making it almost look like it’s floating. Very beautiful! But the best part: the dots aren't black, but a combination of blue and beige tones!

Super practical tableware

Sami Ruotsalainen laid the foundation for the Oiva tableware by Marimekko. In his design, he not only considered aesthetics, but also usability, such as stackability and the fact that it had to be suitable for daily use, which played an important role.

Moreover, from the very beginning, Ruotsalainen focused on the ability to combine the tableware. That is why there are fixed shapes for the various tableware pieces that return time and again - only ever with different colors and motifs. And these can then be supplemented with the basic, white Oiva tableware pieces.

Stoneware, nice and sturdy

The entire Oiva tableware collection is made of stoneware, a sturdier material than earthenware. Great for daily use: it is dishwasher, microwave, oven, and freezer safe. Just make sure not to place the tableware directly from the freezer into a hot oven, as the material cannot withstand that.
