Suzanne Schjerning wipeable tablecloth Rhubarb with acrylic coating | per unit of 50 cm
Wipeable tablecloth with rhubarb, flowers, and a deer here and there
Green and light yellow tones dominate this cotton tablecloth with an acrylic coating. The design is by Danish artist Susanne Schjerning, who often works with silhouettes of plants, flowers, and animals. In this case, rhubarb and other flowers. I also spot a deer. A lovely combination of green and yellow on a very light background. A wonderfully fresh, summery vibe.
Despite the coating and non-slip backing, this tablecloth drapes smoothly over the table and doesn't feel as sticky or tacky as oilcloth.
Old love never dies
15 years ago, I started my webshop with the beautiful Dots bowls by Paul Smith for Stelton, cutting boards by Remember, and tablecloths by Danish designer Susanne Schjerning. Wipeable tablecloths, with a non-slip backing. And beautiful, colourful designs, of a kind I've actually never encountered since.
Long lifespan
Every Ascension Day, we go camping with friends. Lots of friends, lots of children. At some point, I started bringing the wipeable Danish tablecloths I had in my own cupboard to use on the picnic tables at the campsite. And last week I washed them again. Of course, you can wipe them clean with a damp cloth, which is enough for normal use ;-) But after the camping weekend, they go into the wash. Then back into the cellar with the camping gear, because my children have outgrown these tablecloths by now. But I haven't. I suddenly wanted to buy them again!
Long search, and look what I found
It wasn't easy to find them again. The company that supplied them to me 15 years ago went bankrupt a few years ago. Through Susanne Schjerning herself, I found the new supplier. And now they are on their way from Denmark. I'm as happy as a child!
This tablecloth is easy to keep clean
These beautiful cotton tablecloths are finished with an acrylic coating. This ensures that spilled food and drinks can be easily wiped off with a wet cloth. This means the tablecloth hardly ever needs to be washed! If you do want to wash it, you can do so at 40 degrees. Do not spin dry and hang it wet. Ironing is possible on the top, but with a dry tea towel in between.
Non-slip on the underside
The underside has a thin non-slip layer. Super smart given that mainly small tablecloth-pullers sit at tables set with these tablecloths. You won't easily pull this tablecloth out from under your sandwich plate like a magic trick!
Sometimes a coating is better
A linen or cotton tablecloth is, of course, beautiful, but for outdoors and for certain occasions or with certain table companions, a tablecloth with a wipeable coating is a much better solution. Knocked over a cup of chocolate milk? Spilled jam or sauce? A wet cloth over it and you're done!
Tips from Tiets to keep the cloth looking good for a long time
Spilled curry or tomato sauce? Immediately put a drop of undiluted Dreft on the stain and wipe clean with a warm dishcloth. Same for coffee and red wine. The rest of the stains can still be wiped off the next morning. Wax crayons and pencils also work, Edding markers do not. And do not leave these tablecloths permanently outside, otherwise, you'll get weather marks on them.
Another Tip from Tiets
At all children's parties, these tablecloths were on our table. For years they served perfectly whenever we baked and decorated cookies. Rolling out dough, right on the cloth; cutting out shapes too. Finally, the mess with frosting and baking with decorational dips. At the end of the afternoon, a cloth over it, let the tablecloth dry, and back into the cupboard!
