You always have dishes like that in use. At our house, they (read: the husband and the teenagers) would make and/or serve microwave popcorn in it. I'd serve a salad in it, sometimes use it as a casserole dish, a serving dish for fries or another side dish. You can perfectly reheat leftovers in the microwave, use it for mashed potatoes with a side dish, or a gratin from the oven—anything goes too. In short, multifunctional.

Nesting bowls
